UK Hip Hop - Guide to the British Scene.
Getting Around: I arrived in London-Heathrow airport which is about an hour taxi ride into downtown London. (I thought the cabbie was taken me for a ride). The British cabs are a trip, you step up to the cab window tell him where you are going and throw all your bags on the ground in the cab. There is little fold down seats facing the normal seats in the rear of the cab. You don't need to really tip too much in England as they don't really expect it. I think if you do tip, it is 10% only anyways. The cheaper route of getting into town is taking the Heathrow Express train from the airport into the Waterloo tube station (subway=tube) then you can transfer to whatever line you need depending on where you want to go.» Check thetube.com website for maps and more information. London is a shopping Mecca with loads of shops around the Oxford Street area and Soho districts. If you are looking for some one of the kind sneakers then peep their shoe stores. I picked up some old skool looking Adidas, Nike and Puma trainers (as they call them) that I have never seen in the US at Cobra, on Oxford Street. The British money comes in different sizes as the denomination gets bigga. I had to flip the coins over to read the amount on them, "pence" is our equivalent of what we call "cents". The British telephone system is pretty easy to use, just get a BT Telecom card in the airport at a magazine stand in either £5 or £10 pounds. They are smart cards and can be just inserted in just about any phone booths. If you are calling back home, dial 001 then your area code and phone number. I don't really have any suggestions on where to stay in London as I was put up in a Posh hotel by my company during my visit. Get a Let's Go London travel guide book if you are on a budget.
Look out for these artists: Rodney P, Roots Manuva, The P Brothers, TaskForce, Joe Braintax, 57th Dynasty from Brixton London, Phi-Life Cypher on Jazzfudge, Mark B and Blade. (Blade the MC and Mark B the producer.), and peep DJ Skitz' debut album 'Countryman' which is basically a window into the world of the UK Hip-Hop scene - a collection of tracks featuring over 20 guest artists, all British.Peep Task-Force - Live on Choice FM. My boy Dod$ says some Tight Notts emcees are Out Da Ville consisting of 5 members - Lee Ramesey, Tempa, Scor Zay Zee, Karizma and C-Mone. Cappo and Lost Island are groups from the Notts, Cappos pretty tight and Lost Island have got an old school vibe. They are on Son Records.
